Weight Loss Motivation - What Is The Biggest Problem That Kills Weight Loss Motivation?

Weight loss motivation is a BIG problem especially if you have a lot of weight to lose. The problem can just seem IMPOSSIBLE. This is part 3 of our 8 part series exploring the 7 most crippling problems faced by people trying to stick to a weight loss plan and offer the solutions that allowed me to break free of the weight loss plateau. What is the BIGGEST problem that kills the weight loss motivation of thousands? Problem 2: I dont have time for preparing healthy meals! Weight loss solution No.1 AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! I sympathize with you COMPLETELY if the last thing you want to do is slave over a hot stove after a 10 hour (or more) workday. But even if you do work multiple jobs and need to eat out or get take away for almost every meal there is no excuse for poor eating. We live in the 21st century and in one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Almost every type of food available is within close proximity to many of us who live in the city and even semi rural areas these days. There are choices and we need to carefully consider the cost of constantly choosing foods that are stealing away our weight loss solutions. SCARY FACT: It is possible to buy take away foods EVERY DAY of the week and still lose weight.

How did I do it? I stuck to the plan that I have outlined below. The weight loss secret is all about small portions, light healthy meals and WHAT TO AVOID! Top 4 types of foods to AVOID when buying take aways:

  • AVOID FRIED FOODS
Fried foods are everywhere. Hamburgers, fish and chips, chicken, spring rolls etc. the list just goes on! But have you noticed the local sandwich shop offering chicken salad, whole wheat wraps, salads with wholemeal bread there are more possibilities out there than you think. Anything steamed, grilled or baked rather than fried will make a BIG difference to your fat intake.
  • AVOID EXTRAS SUCH AS SAUCES AND TOPPINGS
That chicken schnitzel with cheese and parmigana sauce may make your day but it wont make your weight loss solutions become a reality. Other weight loss killers include butter, sour cream, full cream yoghurts, mayo, tartare sauce and relish. The general pattern is to avoid extras based on sugars and dairy products. The worst thing is we often underestimate the effects of these items on our weight loss solutions. We think they are so small, how can they affect the overall result? Let me tell you that in the past I have been guilty of eating a whole carton of sour cream with a plate of wedges and it adds up big time! Avoid these extras altogether and if you cant then be very mindful of the amount you are using.
  • AVOID LARGE SERVINGS AND UPSIZING
It is very tempting when the larger size is only 50 cents more but the number of calories you are adding can be much more expensive to your diet than 50 measly cents! The best piece of advice someone ever gave me is you have to learn to say NO. The food servers are trained to ask you to upsize. They are simply doing their job. They wont be the least bit offended if you say no. You wont look rude or like a fool especially if you add a thank you to that no. Dont be afraid to say it. No-one is making you say yes.
  • AVOID SUGAR AND DAIRY BASED ALCOHOLS
After we have had a few too many drinks, worries about calories go straight out the window. Irish Cream and milk may taste great but all that milk and the sweet Irish Cream itself is loaded with all the wrong things if you have too many. If you must drink choose a low carb beer or a dry wine (preferably red). Diet soft drinks are not ideal but preferable to their sugar loaded full soft drink counterparts. Nothing beats a nice cold glass of filtered water. It tastes great and you can enjoy it to your hearts content!

HELP! How can I ease the pain? Dont let your weight loss motivation fall if constantly being hungry is getting you down. An adjustment period is normal when you are embarking on any major lifestyle change.

Many people turn to an appetite suppressant called Hoodia to help them through this adjustment period. This natural dietary supplement is a form of the Hoodia Cactus that is famous for its ability to suppress hunger and thirst. Hoodia has been used by the Bushmen of South Africa for hundreds of years to suppress their appetite during long hunting trips through the Kalahari Desert.

The hoodia has the effect of fooling your brain into thinking you are full. It has allowed thousands of Americans to get their food cravings under control and not feel the physical anguish of hunger pains from eating smaller meals. It will allow you to get used to healthier and lighter meals and is a fantastic way to start your diet or start to actually see success in your diet if you have previously made no real progress.

It is not a miracle. You will still need to have mental weight loss motivation but the physical adjustment difficulties will be much easier to conquer when using Hoodia. It turned the weight loss battle on its head when hoodia was discovered in 2003 and for many people it was the breakthrough that allowed them to finally experience the elusive weight loss solution. There are many hoodia extracts you can choose from tablets to capsules to liquids and even patches but BE CAREFUL.

WARNING: Some Hoodia supplements contain little or no authentic Hoodia. Hoodia is very rare and many companies are selling fake Hoodia products to jump on the popularity of this product as a weight loss solution.

Unless you plan on losing your money rather than your pounds there are 3 things you absolutely must AVOID when purchasing Hoodia supplements! These clues on a manufacturers website will help you to identify the scammers and which products to stay away from.

The Dangers Of A Low Fiber Foods Diet

Low fiber foods tend to dominate the supermarkets and restaurants of the world that we live in today. There are very few high fiber foods out there because food manufacturing companies do not believe that they sell very well. In fact, more and more people are turning to higher fiber foods to try and prevent disease and illness in later life. Consuming too many low fiber foods can actually help the onset of cardiovascular disease and cancer, amongst other things, and can actually make your health significantly worse over a period of time. It is therefore advisable that you stay away from low fiber foods and plump for high fiber foods instead. However, some diseases and illnesses require low fiber foods to make life a little more comfortable for sufferers.

Disease And Low Fiber Foods

As most people know, fiber is a substance that cannot be digested. It moves through the body in bulk to help aid digestion and is automatically passed as waste. However, fiber can cause problems for people with some types of digestive diseases. As fiber is passed through the system, it can remain in the intestines for quite some time before being passed out. Unfortunately, this can put pressure on the intestines, which would render some individuals incapacitated with pain. People with colitis or Crohns disease therefore need low fiber foods in order to function successfully.

If an individual has had an operation on a component of his or her digestive system then it would also be advisable to stick to low fiber foods for a while. If an individual has had a colostomy bag fitted for example, he or she is not going to want the hassle of trying to pass fiber. Low fiber foods are therefore perfect. Also, if an individual with cancer, for example, were already having problems with the digestive system then they would be best advised to stick to low fiber foods until the problem is sorted.

Low Fiber Foods Diets

It is usually easier to identify low fiber foods than high fiber foods but any individual with health problems should be able to identify the difference. Low fiber foods do not include grain breads, grain cereals, fruit and vegetables, amongst other things and these high fiber foods should be avoided as far as possible in order to ward off unnecessary discomfort and pain. However, if you boil or steam vegetables for a while and stew fruit then this would actually serve to break the fiber down thus making them more acceptable as a part of a low fiber foods diet.

True Cost Economics

What's the price of your lifestyle? Is your living room furnished in blood, or your wardrobe woven of pain and suffering? How about your body - are you fed with diminishment and despair?

Every piece of merchandise we buy costs a set amount of work, energy and resources. What we pay for it in cash may - or may not - reflect what went into its making. If we buy cheaply, at a discount store where prices are kept artificially low, then the price is paid by others who have to suffer to make up for the portion of the price we refused to pay. If we allow others to negotiate for costs that leave too small of a margin for fair wages or adequate health concerns, then the price is paid by the destablization of the land and the people and the societies that produce it.

But our bargain hunting gets us nowhere. In the end, we pay the full price, with interest - in wars brought about by people pushed too far, by terrorism and riots sparked by those who feel (often rightly) that their people and their land are being drained of life so that the rest of us can buy or drive cheap toys that we don't even appreciate, by environmental degradation that affects us all perpetrated by those simply too powerful to be stopped or too poor to care as long as they can eat and live. We must all face the inevitable fact that human suffering doesn't stop at the suffering human in question, but ripples out to all of us.

No matter what the actual price tag says we pay in full measure for what we buy and use, either in cash or in kind. By choosing to buy less and choose more wisely, we allow ourselves the financial breathing space to afford the better, fairer-priced option, and we step away from supplying the negative cycles of economic hardship. Our actions heal rather than harm, support rather than undermine. And in the end, by working together we can give birth to positive, more equitable cycles where everybody benefits fairly and justly and where everyone gets a chance to demand as well as supply.

Yes, this does mean that we can't load our carts, our houses and our bodies to overflowing every time we step outside our door. But by choosing quality over quantity, we create better health and a better world for those around us and for ourselves. And that's priceless.

Your Health Problems Are Not "All in Your Head"

Our grandmothers have known this for a long time. Now many physicians and healthcare providers have begun to also embrace this concept as numerous recent studies document the statistical relationship between past trauma and current health.

Our grandmothers have known this for a long time. Now many physicians and healthcare providers have begun to also embrace this concept as numerous recent studies document the statistical relationship between past trauma and current health.

But how does this happen?

To address this question, health psychologist and author Kathleen Kendall-Tackett examined her own field of study as well as the child maltreatment literature. Her examination of the numerous studies in both fields helped her identify five major pathways leading from past abuse to current negative health conditions. In her book, The Lifetime Health Effects of Childhood Victimization, she lists these five pathways:

Physiological pathways

  • Trauma causes your sympathetic nervous system to become more reactive. In the stress management literature the sympathetic nervous system activates the fight or flight stress response.
  • Trauma can cause your levels of stress hormone to become permanently dysregulated (medicalize for "out of whack."
  • Trauma may cause you to be more sensitive to pain as it may lower your pain threshold.

Behavioral pathways

  • Because of past trauma or abuse, you may find yourself engaging in risky or harmful behaviors such as using alcohol or dangerous substances.
  • On the flip side, you may ignore engaging in health-promoting behaviors such as proper exercise or eating.

Cognitive pathways

  • As a trauma survivor you may be more likely to have negative beliefs about yourself and others
  • Negative beliefs can undermine your health and may also lead to your engaging in harmful behaviors and harmful relationships.

Social pathways

  • As an abuse survivor, you may find that you experience trouble in relationships: divorce, marital disruptions, and social isolation.
  • Past abuse may condition you to become revictimized in adulthood.

  • Trauma fallout can result in your having a higher incidence of poverty, becoming homeless, or having difficulty in school or work. All of these social problems can negatively impact your adult health status.

Emotional pathways

  • Past trauma or abuse may result in your having depression or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
  • Depression or PTSD can suppress your immune system and lead to a myriad of health problems, including increased risk of heart attacks.

Healing past wounds to improve your health

Awareness affords you the opportunity to heal, improve your life, and become more productive. How do you gain such insight and awareness? Start by journaling 15 minutes or so three times a week about what past trauma you have experienced. As you identify the traumas, ask yourself how each one has changed or driven your life. You will be amazed at what you learn as your journal pages take on a life of their own.

Once you are aware that a problem exists for you, you can set the stage for action. Read everything you can about your problem, consult professionals, and discuss with friends who support you. Then craft a plan for overcoming your problem and take action.
